I woke up from a nap and turned on the game, saw it was 21-0 and thought: "Wow I must have really overslept" then saw that it was only halfway through the first quarter .

Because I enjoy heaping abuse upon McDaniels.

Hillis is saving my fantasy football season. I lost Ryan Grant in both leagues and picked up Hillis and if I do somehow manage to salvage something after 1-3 starts in both leagues, I credit him completely.

Also, Wade Phillips was finally fired.

Jason Garrett should be worried. Quoth Jerry Jones, "Jason has the full support of this organization."

garrett's best hope is that the team does well enough to get him another job somewhere else.

Spygate comes to Denver

So the Broncos get investigated for videotaping the 49'ers walkthrough practice and now only the videographer takes the fall?

In all fairness, I do understand a scenario in which this could happen: the videographer fears the Broncos losing season could result in McDaniels firing, which impacts his own job security, and thus tapes the 49'ers walkthough...which had previously worked for them in New England. He then offers the tape to McDaniels, who declines to use it, but also does not turn in said videographer, because they were friends. However, someone else blows the whistle to Bowlen, who turns the information over to the NFL, as to not have a repeat of the penalties New England received.

Unfortunately, this is just another embarrassing blemish on McDaniels underwhelming tenure in Denver. It would not surprise me to see him become a successful head coach in the future (ala Belichick), but he has been clearly overmatched in this first opportunity...to the detriment of the Broncos and their fans.

reading that i'm thinking three things:

1) that's probably not what happened (i understand you aren't saying it is)
2) that seems to be even more evidence (albeit circumstantial) that the pats were, in fact, doing exactly what they were accused of doing
3) i'll bet there are still pats fans who don't believe their team taped anything

Of course the Patriots were doing what they were accused of doing. The problem is that most haters don't know what they were accused of. What they did was very common. And don't take my word for it. Take the word of Jimmy Johnson and several other NFL coaches.

and the Broncos have "relieved McDaniels of head coaching duties". The careful wording tells me they are going to file a grievance with the NFL that he is being fired for cause (Spygate Jr.), which would let the Broncos fire him without paying him dime 1 in severance.

This is lesson #2 why head coaches being successful general managers should be the league exception and not the rule. This is the second head coach that, IMO, Denver has fired for failures as General Manager.

Kubiak was never Denver coach. It was Shanahan

Derek was referencing Khazim's contention that Denver's success during the late 90's was primarily attributable to Gary Kubiak, while its failures, post-Elway, were mainly attributable to Shanahan.

(See what happens when you close the original thread? All the juicy references get lost.)

And I still hold that contention. Kubiak called the offense. Shanahan brought in the personnel. The failures of Shanahan were personnel moves/draft choices.

So, Kubiak won with players that Shanahan brought in? Which makes Shanahan's personnel decisions "failures?"

and how are the houston texans doing, by the way?
khazim

Kubiak won with the play calling. Shanahan's draft failures make for a long list.

BTW, Urban Meyer has just stepped down as Florida's head coach. Denver just happens to have a vacancy at head coach. coincidence?
