Ah, another stellar trade

October 27, 2010 at 05:02AM View BBCode

A trade has been completed between the New York Americans and the Minnesota Plodders. The Minnesota Plodders receive Spoke Tyriver, Draft Pick - 1985 Round 4 (NYN), Draft Pick - 1985 Round 3 (NYN) from the New York Americans in exchange for Todd Frazier, Brian Roy, Draft Pick - 1985 Round 1 (PIT).

Ok, so Minnesota goes out and replaces yet another first rounder he has traded away by getting Pittsburgh's first pick, which was great, but then...
Viola!
Trades it away along with a player (Roy) who will end up as a better batter than the guy he got (Tyriver).

You sure do a lot of crying about what MIN does, for a guy in first place with no conceivable competition to speak of.

I mean is there a REASON for the calling out? What do you hope to accomplish? You're saying Tyriver is NOT Rd 1 material?

Tyriver is not only better than any player who will come through the draft this year, he's ready NOW instead of three/four years from now. Roy might have a little more power before all is said and done, but Tyriver's going to be better as a contact hitter. Plus Roy probably needs to be converted to LF for his defense. Tyriver will be okay at his natural 3rd base designation.

But thanks for yet another display of incredulousness, allowing owners to b*tch yet again about what they have no reason to b*tch about. At least until it is THEIR money being spent on THIS team.

Tyriver and MIN have had some times together before.

Originally, Tyriver was a 4th pick overall 1982 by BOS.

MIN traded Rd 1 1984 and other pieces for Tyriver.

I hated trading Tyriver. But desperate for pitching, MIN traded Tyriver for OS 23 SP Severson and PHI Rd 1 1984, which became vet SP Robertson who was turned over to PIT, leading back to PIT's Rd 1 which became Tyriver the second time around.

So essentially, it shakes out to this trade: PIT 1 1985 (? barring tanking 6-10), PHI 1 1984 (6th, developing CLE 1B Morgan), BRO Rd 1 1985 (16th, developing DET catcher Miller), MIN 1 1984 (1st, BOS RP Weiss) and CLE 1 1983 (13th, NYN 1B Roy) FOR:

Tyriver OS 23 (4th overall 1982), OS 23 SP Romero (28th, Rd 2 1981 by way of DET) and OS 23 SP Severson (24th, Rd 2 1981), plus OS 25 catcher Plitt (7th, 1984 via BRO.)

5 Rd 1s, 2 of which were Playoff Rd 1s, with maybe two really exceptional players drafted among them, for a future super-stud 3B and the future second (maybe better) and fourth SP in MIN's rotation, along with a functional catcher.

Of course, if NYN drafts a super-stud SP or something, then the trade will look much worse.

Lastly, out of all of MIN's Rd 1s on my watch, only two trades were true boners. In this case, I wanted Tyriver back and gave up extra to reclaim him: SS Frazier hurts more than anything. He was one of the best hitters MIN has had, and is now on a Playoff team in NY.

The ONLY reason why I post about your trade is because you spend so much time complaining about how crappy your team is.

Then you go and trade a first and a good prospect for someone who is probably equal to either one of those pieces.

You continually overpay and trade away good first round picks. You can't just let it rest and then you go and complain constantly about your team.

I just hate to see guys who go non-stop on the trades only to have their team stay in last while they draft 0 first rounders for years on end. Usually crummy teams compile draft picks, not trade them away like they were a contending team.

"I just hate to see guys who go non-stop on the trades only to have their team stay in last while they draft 0 first rounders for years on end."

So it's not possible to trade for a Rd 1 talent? Unless you draft the awesome player, you'll never have one via trade?

And again, good thing you publicly shame the owner you disagree with. Tough love!

Of course you can trade for a good player.

But when you add in Roy, who is going to be easily as good as Tyriver (in fact will be an A+ power guy). That's just excessive because you paid double for him.

Its not personal at all.
