Is it just me...

... or has anyone noticed that it seems like guys with little to no power are starting to go yard? My C-/C- powered leadoff man jacked one to lead off the first game today. He has 3 Hr for the season now... which is just 1 shy of half of the HR he's hit during his entire 4+ year career. My #3 hitter in the HWL has 8 so far, which is just 2 shy from his career-best season 3 years ago.

Yet my A-/A+ powered catcher has yet to reach the fences in 146 AB this year.

It could just be how ABE has your cycle going. Most of my HRs in all of my leagues are still coming from the A+ power guys. On the other hand, sometimes I end up with A+ contact guys who have a .200 average and the C+ contact guys who are getting on base a lot, so it can be frustrating and hard to figure out sometimes.

You could be right, but it's intruiging nonetheless. I have a guy that is maxed out at 100 in both contact categories in another league. He's 31 now, has a career BA of .358 and an OBP of .440. This season, he's hitting just .177. A 21 year old rookie on that same team with C/C+ contact is leading the league at .422... and his A+ health hasn't let him skip a game yet. The unfortunate part, his A/A+ power has brought forth only 3 HR. This season for him will be interesting to watch. Despite the great start, I have the feeling he'll end up hitting nothing but HR and 2B after the midway point... ending up with around 20-25 HR, but his BA will slip to around .270.

I think you make a good point about the midway point of the season. I have had a few stud, former MVPs, who started the season at .220 with 2 HRs at the midway point. Then they go on a tear for the 2nd half and end up a respectable .270 with 25 HRs by the end of the season. I think that eventually the players show their true colors and perform within a certain tolerance based on their skills. But of course this is not a hard and fast rule. I think that's where the game acts kinda like MLB in that you can have guys who have one great season (you get excited about them) and then they hit .240 for their career.

By the same token, while I've seen star players have off years, most of them will have their numbers by the end of the season. Deep Threat, I notice Abadie and Irwin's numbers have been steadily climbing after poor starts. (Abadie had a similar bad start last year but still put up the numbers by the end of the season.) The low graded players who may have a great year usually fall back to their expected levels over the course of their careers as well.

NP, yeah, I have little doubt that Abadie and Irwin will get on track. Irwin's slipped back into a slight slump again, but I think it'll be short lived. Mandragoran seems to be that way as well. He either gets off to a hot April, then cools down in May and June... but then is red hot in July and put up good numbers from that point on. Or, he gets off to incredibly slow starts that last through May, then tears it up for the next 3 months only to swoon in September. The only two guys I've had in this league in particular that have been fairly consistent have been Cauthon until his last couple of years and Rahl. Thranduilion has been consistent as well, but this is only his 3rd season.
