This guy is far and away the NL MVP this year. How is Damaska ahead of this guy? The crappy teams never get any love!February 18, 2010 at 11:49PM View BBCode
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If your team is not doing good, then it's not the most valuable player, yes we have seen in the past players like A-Rod get this nod on a crappy team, but for the most part your team needs to be in contention to be up there, also position plays a part. We have battled this for years, but I think admin has this one pegged pretty right.February 19, 2010 at 12:19AM View BBCode
MVP means different things to different people, I guess. I would interpret it to mean that player would be the Most Valuable Player to ANY team that he played for. It's how Randy Johnson won a Cy Young with a 16-14 record, because he alone won about a third of his team's games, haha! This year (1988), Johnnie Hottub is the BEST player in the NL........MVP.February 19, 2010 at 12:26AM View BBCode
No doubt that Hottub deserves it, but he played for the Royals would you vote for him?February 19, 2010 at 12:32AM View BBCode
Probably....that much more impressive when your supporting cast of characters includes David DeJesus, Mike Aviles, and newly acquired, drumroll...........Rick Ankiel!February 19, 2010 at 12:36AM View BBCode
Correction - Randy Johnson didn't win the Cy Young award that year and furthermore, I don't know what the Cy Young award has to do with the MVP....just consider me a douche bagMarch 10, 2010 at 06:28AM View BBCode
Ok the MVP vote is a joke!!!!!! I guess it can only go to someone that is on a team that is either first or second. I am not saying Hottub should win, because I do believe that it because James is putting up some great numbers for a really good team. But come on, he is not even in the top 5. He should be in at least 2nd. You mean to tell me someone batting .299 with 22 HR and 97 RBI or batting .293 with 24 HR and 81 RBI with someone from therr own team already ahead of them in the vote is more deserving than Hottub. Just because his supporting cast is not as good as the other teams. It is highway robbery. Sorry or the rant. I am done now.March 10, 2010 at 02:40PM View formatted

I think the main issue is your team is not in playoff contention. The additional 150 pts they received is huge IMO.March 11, 2010 at 06:24AM View BBCode
I guess my point is there is way too much emphasis on being on a good team as far as the vote. I understand the best player on the first and second place teams being ahead of Hottub, but that should be it. If he didn't have a monster final 3 games he would not have been in the top 5. And that is a disgrace considering his numbers. I mean he only lead the league in (HR) (RBI) (OnBase %) and (OPS). So the way this is calculated, only a player from the 1st place team will win the MVP, unless 2nd is within 5 games.March 11, 2010 at 02:07PM View BBCode
I am with you and argued this point earlier this year.March 11, 2010 at 10:34PM View BBCode
I think we all would agree, that if the system purports to represent how real MLB voting would turn out, that target was missed by a mile, because Hottub would have won by a landslide with those numbers in real life.Pages: 1
