Pinch Runners - Need your help testing

October 26, 2009 at 10:46PM View BBCode

One of the trickiest things to get right on the sim is player substitution stuff. Often there are too many moving parts and I miss something.

I've completed my first cut of Pinch runners on the sim. Note that the default setting for this are very conservative, so please adjust yours so that pinch runners come into games frequently. Note that I've made a few changes from last week to the prefs page for this.

I'm putting a bounty on this one too. For every unique problem someone finds, I'll give you D$250 in credits.

Note that we are looking at games from 9/2 onwards for problems.

Thanks for your help.

Haven't had an issue yet with pinch runners but on a side note.

With my roster at 50 in order to maximize minor league improves I attempted to rest a couple of major leaguers and pick up a couple of high speed "pinch runners" but it won't let me add players because ABE is counting the rested players against my maximum roster of 50.

Wow, he got replaced twice and he still managed to advance to second.

Ok, I think I have a fix for that. Let me know if you guys see anything else. I've put D$250 on your account Casey.

I'll look into your issue TwoRoosters.

I'm going to look through some more boxscores today. I'll be looking for situations where Abe should have pinch run for someone and didn't, or where he did pinch run but shouldn't have.

"Only pinch run for a runner on 3rd if there are less than 4 outs."

I'm not sure if it's really going to create a problem, but to be safe, you should probably not allow anyone to select anything greater than 3 for the outs. I entered "4", and it was accepted.

I think that you'd want that there just to be sure that somone could PR every time someone reached 3rd if they wanted to.

I'm not going to worry about that, if someone puts in 4 or more it should still work fine.

Game #147 Chicago at Texas:

Inning: 7 Texas
Derek George strikes out.
Lee Meyers walks.
John Rios singles.
Lee Meyers advances to third on the hit.
Sled Campbell is pinch hitting for Don Gajkowski. Pinch hitter brought in for the pitcher for Offensive reasons.
Gordon Campbell is pinch running for Gordon Campbell on 1st base.
Sled Campbell singles.
Lee Meyers scores.
Gordon Campbell advances to third on the hit.
Roy Cicotte doubles.
Gordon Campbell scores.
Fred Humphries comes in from the bullpen to pitch.
Al Halama flies out to the center fielder.
Al Guillen grounds out to the second baseman.

Also because ABE thought Campbell was subbing for Campbell Rios was allowed to stay in the game.

Also check out the Texas boxscore in that game, Campbell appears above the 1st batter instead of below Rios in the 8 spot.

OOps, nice catch. Thank you! I've credited you for this. I think that should be worked out:

I'm working on highlighting pinch runners with a color in dynasty vision, and reported them as PR instead of PH in the boxscore.

Ok, pinch runners should be highlighted green and shown as PR as of game 151.

I've made it so you can pick up more than 50 players. Let me know if you run into anything else because of this.

While I was able to do this at the end of last season with players on rest I am no longer able to have more than 50 players.

Tried to accept a trade when my roster was more then 50 and ABE would not let me do it then I took my roster down to 50 and tried to add a player from waivers and ABE would not let me do it.

In both cases I got this message:

ERROR: You would have more than 50 players on your team as a result of this transaction. You might have to waive some players without picking up players first to fix this problem.

I believe it is working correctly then. You shouldn't be able to get your active roster above 50. If you try to make a trade, Abe shouldn't let you if your roster is above 50.

On the roster size, Washington (abandoned) has 54 players in the minors for a total roster of 79.

Yeah, he'll be unable to make moves until he gets his roster back to 50.
