Smurfs: Mammals or egg-laying?

This was an argument brought up in my favorite TV show, The Venture Brothers.

THE ARGUMENTS:
-Papa Smurf has a beard! They're mammals!
-There's one female servicing a large group of males! That implies a speices that lays eggs!

It should however be noted that the fact that we've only seen one female smurf does not mean there aren't other females. It may be that she is the one female that is actually allowed out of--well, I would have to assume its some sort of torture chamber.

Well, let's not forget that Smurfette was made from clay by Gargamel in order to spread jealousy amongst the all-male society. So she, in fact, isn't even a real Smurf.
