Dream Season

May 10, 2009 at 10:08PM View BBCode

Congratulations, everyone, for another outstanding season of TRL competition. The Kings are delighted to have again won the title. For a while, it seemed that destiny was not on our side. The Ramblers played very well jumping to a 3-1 series lead before Johnny Raymer, Hiroto Tamaki, and Luke Handley shut down the Philadelphia offense to lead the way to the NLCS championship. In the World Series, Washington built leads of 2 games to zero and three games to two before young Nick Stokes and then Tamaki took charge. The two seven-game series provided many thrills and chills.

This year, the Kings felt a great deal of pressure throughout the series. 1975 was a dream season that would not have been complete without winning the World Series. First, the team sported the best record in the TRL with 109 wins. In 1972, the Kings won 115 games only to lose the WS to the powerful Detroit Tigers. We did not wish to again experience that disappointment.

Second, the 1975 edition of the Kings swept the NL awards, an unprecedented accomplishment, a first for the TRL. Gene McMurtrey led the offense and captured his first MVP award. Johnny Raymer headlined the top pitching staff in the TRL and won his third Cy Young award in the last five years. Spencer Chesnes anchored the bullpen and was voted the league's top Fireman. Finally, young Paul Perez not only took over the starting catcher role from aging favorite Bill Freehan, but he proceeded to emerge as the top rookie by winning the Rookie of the Year award.

The award winners represent but a few of many excellent players on a well-rounded squad. Many more players contributed throughout this dream season. Thankfully, we prevailed and won our second consecutive World Series. The window of opportunity soon will begin to close. Within the next couple of seasons, the skills of many players who contribute greatly to the success of the team will begin to decline. Some players already have hinted that retirement may be right around the corner. Soon it will be time for another franchise to take control of the NL. Until then, and especially during this off-season, Kings fans will enjoy the most recent victory (first by enjoying several bottles of a tasty micro-brew).

Good luck in the off-season and in the amateur draft. The Kings can hardly wait for 1976 to begin. See you then!

Congrats, Tim. Just keep an eye out for my Privateers. Barely a starter above 30 outside of Cauthon, and almost my entire pitching staff is still within the age range to improve a couple of ticks here and there.

Just need Bashere, Gondor, and Grey to get a bump in velocity and perhaps endurance.... and have Trakand begin to pitch consistently.

Plus, I don't anticipate Mandragoran having back-to-back down seasons.

Congratulations, Tim. You truly had a dream season. In the last 2 years, we came so close to upsetting you, but in the end, the Kings truly deserved to be triumphant. We'll be back again to try to unseat you next year. Once again, congratulations.

Congratulations! You have created a powerful team. It's fun to try to challenge the Kings. Lately, 'try' is about all I could do.

I hope we others in the NL can give you a run next season.

P.S. An Oddity

Note that 22 year old Rookie of the Year [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=4925921]Paul Perez[/url]:

- has four NLCS appearances to his credit
- has four World Series appearances to his credit
- has won two World Series rings

Yeah, Tim, I've noticed that too with another team. It seems that as long as you are on the 40-man roster, you get credit for the team's post-season delights.

No, I believe a player must be on the 25 man roster in order to get credit for the appearance or to win the WS ring.

In '71, '72, and '74, Perez was called up late in the season to replace the backup catcher, Brandon Snyder (twice when Snyder was injured, as I recall). Perez remained on the 25 man roster throughout the playoffs. In '71 and '72, Perez played in some or all of a total of five games. In '74, he was on hand, but Bill Freehan played throughout the series.
