Mass Collusion in the Trial Leagues and the Dummy13 Account
April 29, 2009 at 06:32PM View BBCode
This guy is back:
http://www.simdynasty.com/oldforum-viewthread.jsp?tid=213108
I've replaced him in 62 leagues.
If you see the Dummy13 screen name in your league, that means this guy was in your league.
I will be adding more to that list shortly. If you notice any lopsided trades between his teams, please notify us so we can undo it.
This time around I'll just put the person lodging the complaint in charge of the team(s) so they can reverse the trades themselves.

If you are a lawyer and would like to help us take this individual to court, please contact me. This has been going on for like 4 years now and we've about had enough.

Is there any sign he is creating these accounts automatically, like them all being created within seconds of each other? Do we need to add a CAPTCHA to the account creation code?
Admin

No, I don't think he creates them automatically. There are probably only 100-200 accounts in the system created by him. If he had a script, I would expect a lot more.
I'm working with my hosting company to ban more of his IP addresses, and I'm working on better ways to detect when he has joined a league.

Is it that DocVino guy again? This is seriously getting ridiculous.

It could be Carl from Canada. I knew there was something fishy about him.
Legally speaking, I'm not sure you'd have a claim (lack of significant damages - unless you could prove that this individual took up significant resources of your time or discouraged other owners from participating... for "significant" I'm talking thousands of hours and for owners not playing bc of him, I'm talking specific examples of people that refused to play solely because of him... and that would be quite difficult to find these people and even harder to prove).
Sadly, the law hasn't caught up to the Internet just yet. I'll do some research and find out if there's a valid claim here.

Doc Vino? Christ, I remember trying to locate this guy for you a few years ago. To echo Dwight, he really needs to get a life.

harassment Todd, look under harassment.
I don't think it would fit, Bart... as much as we'd like to squeeze that square peg into the round hole, it won't fit.
At the end of the day, you're going to need some evidence of damages... and I'm not sure Tyson would be able to measure them accurately.
Not only that, the actions would have to be "severely offensive" and I doubt these actions, which are annoying and disturbing, fall under that category...
Just saying. Usually, a simple lawsuit would work. I doubt something like this would go to court. The other lawyer would tell his client to just settle and stay away from the site. It's like two to three "cease and desist" letters.
And because I'd wager that the other person with the multiple IDs is a kid/teenager/young adult, the letter would be addressed to the parents and it would shock them quite well. :)

Makes me wonder what kind of vendetta he has against this site.
I'm no legal expert, but if you could track down his address, I think the least you could do right now is have a lawyer write up a "cease and desist" letter, but I really have no idea how these things go, especially on the Internet.
At the very least, I would recommend talking to a lawyer and finding out what you can do about this.

This individual has returned. We have removed them (biggig) from the site and dummy20 will now manage all their teams. About 50 in total.

I suspected this guy, biggig, quite a while ago for several reasons:
1) His U2U messages to me. Nothing incriminating but he set off my professional radar that alerts me when I deal with scam artists
2) I was in several of the same leagues as him and all his trades were borderline one sided. I thought he was being careful not to make them so one sided (like in the past) that he'd be reported and it was always interleague trades
I didn't report him because I had no proof but I am not surprised that he is finally outed.
