Bunch Of New Enhancements

February 06, 2002 at 09:52PM View BBCode

I've made a bunch of enhancements to the roster page. These changes have been made in my development area and moved into place tonight. Did I mention I have a development area? This way I can try new things out on the site without disrupting anything with the beta testing.

The changes include:
The roster page now has two new columns, one called Tired, which shows you from Red to Green how tired your player is. If you have a player in the starting lineup who is Red, he will sit out for the game. Player's don't play worse when they get tired, they just kind of hit the wall and have to sit out a game. Also, you can see the health attribute on this page, which shows you how healthy a player is.

I've moved the new letter rating system to all other pages on the site. So you no longer have the numbers, just grades like in school.

Check these out tonight - probably before 7pm. Let me know what you think of the colors used for the Tired bar. Orange and yellow-green are hard to create on the web.

I wanted to add sorting capability on this page, but its the most difficult page to do it on. I almost have the logic figured out. I'll try to get that one in tonight. I think it will really help people when making their lineups out.

Also, ChrisL has provided some code to give a daily news feature to the site. I'm going to try to play around with this tonight and see if I can get it to work. Thanks Chris! Sorry its taken me so long to get to it :)

No sign of the tired bar on my roster sheet.

Sorry, wasn't logged in properly last time. Tired bar missing from Cincinnati Steamroller.

Nope -- I don't see it either.

Also, still see the number ratings on the individual player cards, the promote/demote screen and the trade screen.

You are viewing the raw post code; this allows you to copy a message with BBCode formatting intact.
Both the fatigue bars and the A-F ratings display are working. I love them -- great additions. Perhaps instead of color for the fatigue bars, you might just want to give a description: Fine, Tiring, Fatigued, Resting. That, or simply a number rating from 1-5; 1 = not tired, 5 = need a day off. Either variation might be more clear than the color scale. Regardless, this is an excellent feature.

A player's total rating, range and arm are all still displayed in numeric form on the player card.

Couple of suggestions on the fatigue bars. Probably worthwhile to have a key somewhere explaining what each color represents. Also, there seems no reason to have such a large bar unless there were going to be varying lengths depending on how tired the player is. In fact, that might be a better way to go -- a complete bar would mean fully rested, a very short bar would mean tired, no bar would mean sitting out the next game, etc. Might be more readily understandable at a glance then with the color coding.

Regardless of the style, however, a nice addition.

I find the color bars very ugly.

Graphics are obviously my weak area. Let me try something else with these. I like the idea of a bar that goes down as the player gets less rested. I could call the column Energy instead of Tired. Maybe that would work.

I fixed the bug on the player page. The ratings now display correctly on the player card.
