My bullpen loves to blow games as well. A lot of times, I try to move guys around into different positions until they settle down and stop throwing meatballs.November 27, 2002 at 04:47PM View BBCode
I have, just this season, come across an odd BP error in the program logic. As anyone in the Willie Mays league will attest, my team went thru the first rotation (21 games) with a 5-17 record. I knew my guys were better than that. Since then, we went 13-8 and 12-9 in the next 2 rotations. My BP was blowing the game the whole first 21 games. The thing I noticed was that one of my pitchers had most of the innings (and he was NOT my best). I looked at my BP and noticed that he had a C endurance and everybody else was in the Ds (D+ was the highest). ABE was pitching him whenever he was available, even if the situation called for a setup guy, or the closer. I tried him at every position in the BP, but the problem persisted. After 21 games, I sent him to the minors, and everything cleared up. My BPs era went down, ABE started pitching the right guy for the situation, and we started winning. If I had won as many games in the first 21 as I have since, I'd be contending, instead of working in my young guys. Anyway, the upshot is look for a severe imbalance in your BP's endurance ratings (one, and only one guy, way better than the rest) dump him to the minors, bring up a guy whose endurance fits better and see what happens.November 27, 2002 at 06:49PM View formatted
