Tiebreaker Fixes

February 10, 2015 at 07:16PM View BBCode

I made some changes to the tiebreaking code (used for playoffs and draft order) to address 3 way ties. Previously, this was using wins in head-to-head matches to break ties. It has been changed to use winning percentage.

Please check your draft orders after the offseason and let me know if you see anything that is wrong. I had to change quite a bit of code for this fix, and may have broken something else in the process.

Looks like the new code may have broken the World Series. Calendar is running, but no games are being played.

I've fixed the underlying issue. While doing so, I messed up the 24 team league dates a bit - but we got through the playoffs. The offseason for the salary league ran multiple times and caused some issues, I'm sorting those out.

If you notice any issues, please post a ticket in Support.

Thanks,

I guess you need to check the draft order. or are you trying out a lottery, or what?

I think it had a problem the first time. I just checked the draft order for all 3 leagues and it looks good.

um. how does the tiebreaker work? three teams, each plays two games. each wins one. the team that scored the fewest runs goes forward? is that how its supposed to work?

(I used to think I knew how the three team tiebreaker worked. I now know I have no idea. what.......so........ever.)

I mean it should be Brooklyn. Brooklyn and Miami both scored nine runs in the round robin. Brooklyn holds the edge over Miami in the regular season 12-9. so Brooklyn should be the team that goes forward (if you were to use, say, something sane and not whatever logic was used, which, I just won't speculate, because I can't figure it out and I won't speculate). how does it work out to St Louis? I am just curious, I would like to know how it works. thanks.

Tim,
If there is a 3-way tiebreaker in the playoffs, and all the teams go 1-1, then the team with the best regular season head-to-head winning pct. should advance. Did you see something else?

i am sure that was what it did, I just wanted to know how it worked.

it seems to me, a more satisfying 3 way thing, would be this

determine which of the three had the "best regular season head to head winning percentage". give that team the bye (that is its reward for being "better" during the regular season).

the other two teams play one game (against each other obviously). the winner of that game plays the team that has the bye, and there is your team that advances, and plays in the LCS.

if the team with the "best regular season head to head winning percentage" is to be rewarded, this seems better (giving it a bye) than giving it the whole thing based on this percentage after all the teams go 1-1. settle it on the simulated field, not on a technical verdict after the games have played.

Do you then need a tiebreaker if two teams have an evenly-matched head-to-head record? Run differential?

There are only 34 players in the Draft Pool right now. Seems like a mistake.
