A little change will help game to be more interesting ...

January 20, 2014 at 07:16PM View BBCode

I don't want to complicate it, but I find annoying the fact that I can choose the play selection, but not team's formation on that play .. I suppose CPU choose for me.

It would be more interesting if the option could involve both.
It could be made using 2 lines:

Formation ...
Play ...

or in the same menu adding lines ..
middle run - I formation
middle run - pro set
outside run - I formation
outside run - pro set
short pass - I formation
short pass - pro set
and so on

In that case it will have more sense to set OL or even FB with "run blockers" instead of "pass blockers".

Just one more issue .. what the "h..." has happened to 3-4 defense?

Thanks.

It is coming.

The way it is going to work is this: A particular "play" actually represents a group of plays. Say a "short pass" represents a set of 8 short pass plays. When I upgrade the system, you'll be able to edit the "short pass" playbook and select which plays it contains. So you might have a play called 50 X Quick Out which has the X receiver (split end) executing a quick out to the sideline from the Pro Set formation; this play would appear by default in both the Short Pass and Short Sideline Pass groups, and you could set the percentage for how often it appears in that group. There will be subgroups and possibly custom subgroups to allow you to tailor everything. Obviously this is a huge upgrade but this is what is in the plan.

I really think that'd be a big improvement, I just have a doubt:
how would the defense counteract those new offense toys?
are new defensive settings coming too? and in that case, how are they gonna work in the game, play by play, against the new offense settings?

I don't know how much I'd want to get into playbooks, to be honest. I don't know that I'd find it fun so much as that one step into "this is a pain in the ass".

Well, you could always play with the default playbooks, or just tinker slightly (like taking out QB keeper plays and such).

They would be similar. There would be fewer defensive plays, because the individual players would have more responsibility for thinking on the fly. That starts making Execution more important, because each player gets its own "game state" including the location of the ball carrier, which may be inaccurate if a player falls for play-action or something.

Again, though, you could ignore all that and just use existing playbooks.

Is there an ETA for this? Is it soon? Ohh...Excited.

Even if I could code it all in a couple of months, it would need to spend a lot of time in testing, so it is a long-term project. My goal is to break it all into chunks and just get them rolling as quickly as I can. I'm working on some infrastructure stuff right now; next up will be some work on drafts, then some work on defensive stats, then I will be able to start work on the play modules.

Don't wait for it, it won't be anytime soon.
It'll come when it comes.

Try to enjoy it the way it is right now so you'll be happily surprised when that happens, instead of being bitter because it's taking too long.
